Bad Apartments is a physical model study series inspired by aparment searching experience in summer 2021.
Reading through Google reviews for residential buildings in Philadelphia, one comes across some rather provocative and emotional comments. Complaints range from building management to interior layout, traffic noises to indoor heating, apartment common zones to dryer & washer in the individual units. Those dissatisfied comments outlined a portrait for urban living dilemma.
Taking the bad reviews as project brief, the ‘Bad Apartments‘ studies use hand made models to represent and exaggerate uncomfortable living conditions, finding unexpected spatial moments in the intentionally bad designs.
